Staying clean of the law
If you run a food business you must ensure you produce or serve safe and suitable food. The Food Act 1981 states that food businesses are required to operate under the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974 administered by local councils, or adopt an audited Food Safety Programme (FSP).
An FSP is a risk-based approach to identifying, monitoring and managing the hazards within your food business. You must:
- develop an appropriate plan
- have it approved by the Ministry for Primary Industries
- have it audited to monitor its effectiveness.
